Humans

Humans in Toril are widespread, can be found in most regions and, in general, are fierce and disagreeable, which can sometimes lead certain other races to view them with contempt. They are renowned for their diversity and ambition, and although they lack specialization, they can excel in many areas.

With so many different ethnicities of the human race, one human can appear to be quite different to the next.

Humans range in height from 5'6“ - 6'2”, and healthy individuals vary in weight from 135 - 220 lbs. Their skin tones can vary from pale to dark brown, while hair colours can be various shades of red, blond, brown, black; usually turning gray or white with age. Most human eyes are some shade of blue, brown, gray, green, or hazel. Humans can usually live up to about 80 years.

The origin of humanity is something yet unknown. Although the Elves can claim the primal war between Corellon and Gruumsh for their heritage and the dwarves claim to have been forged from the rocks of Abeir-Toril itself, humans have no unifying creation myth. However, they are certainly an ancient race, having originated since before written records exist and they are frequently considered one of the creator races.

Regardless of their precise origins, humans have been undeniably successful. While hardly the only dominant race of Toril, humans are one of them and the most recent to obtain dominance. In spite of this strength, or perhaps because of it, humanity is an eternally fractured and divided race, broken up into over a dozen ethnic offshoots. It is believed that this is in part because humanity, unlike most other races, did not emerge as a whole but rather in several places at once, thereby resulting in its diversity.

Since the fall of Myth Drannor and the steady decline of Elven kingdoms, culminating with the Elven Retreat, humans are by far the most dominant settled race in the Dalelands. Residing in towns and secluded hamlets alike, they cover all walks of life and every shade of morality.

Most Humans in Cormanthor will be Chondathan or Damaran in origin, the former being the most widespread ethnicity in the Realms while the latter covering those from the Moonsea region and north of that.

Information on regional ethnicities can be found at the Forgotten Realms Wikia: Humans article.
